What Day is it? It's Today. Ah, My Favourite Day!

Winnie the Pooh has to be the best known character in history. What would the world be like without Christopher Robin, Pooh Bear, Piglet, Tigger, Eeyore, Rabbit, Roo and so many more friends from the 100 acre woods.

To celebrate the iconic character, Winnie the Pooh Day is celebrated every year on January 18. Winnie the Pooh first appeared in print in the early 20th century and has been a well known favourite ever since.

When the first Winnie the Pooh Day was celebrated is somewhat of a mystery, it's set on author A A Milne's birthday. What a great way to honour the author and playwright as well as the lovable honey loving bear he brought to life.

Several words and phrases from the Winnie-the-Pooh stories, such as; “Poohsticks”, “heffalump”, and "Eeyorish” are all words that have been added to the Oxford English Dictionary. There is even a phenomenon in scientific methodology called the “Woozle effect”, used when unverified or non-facts become urban myths.

So whether you discovered Winnie through Disney, or through the books themselves, take the time to remember the bear and the incredible author behind him.
