Heart & Stroke

Bloomex Canada is proud to renew its support for Heart & Stroke with four special bouquets and a donation option during the month of February 2020. The campaign supports Heart Month in Canada.

As a proud national partner of Heart & Stroke, Bloomex will support fundraising efforts by providing a $2 donation at checkout option, for any purchase made at Bloomex.ca during the month of February. In addition, Bloomex will offer an exclusive Heart & Stroke collection featuring four red-themed bouquets. 15% of product price for each bouquet sold will also be donated to provide further support.

Heart & Stroke has helped decrease the death rate from heart disease and stroke in Canada by 75% over the past 60 years. A staggering 1.6 million Canadians live with heart disease and stroke with 9 in 10 having at least one risk factor.

Funds raised for Heart & Stroke will help fund research and will support the campaign #TimeToSeeRed.  Heart disease and stroke is the leading cause of premature death of women yet most are unaware. Only two-thirds of heart disease and stroke research is focused on women. Heart & Stroke seeks to ensure equitable representation of women in the funded research, close the research gap, and stop women dying unnecessarily.

Bloomex Supports Make-A-Wish® Canada this February

Bloomex is so happy to continue our support as a sponsor to Make-A-Wish® Canada. Wishes inspire children to battle through their medical struggles. Wishes also create an entire community of well-being around the child, and we know this is an important aspect of why wish-granting is so important.

For the month of February 2020, Bloomex will activate the special promotional code “WISH20.” When applied at checkout, WISH20 provides a 20% discount on products at Bloomex.ca, and in addition, donate 5% of product purchase to Make-A-Wish.

Bloomex will also continue to offer the “I Care” Teddy Bear on its shopping site. $5 from each teddy bear purchased will also be donated to Make-A-Wish to help create wishes for children with life-threatening illnesses.

When Make-A-Wish® Canada asked what Olivia wished for most in the world, she told them she wanted to meet a Minion in real life. Olivia said she would like to “play with them, fight crime with them, and hug them!” She also wanted to ask them if they really like bananas. She was excited to share the experience with her parents and her twin sister, Kate. To read all about Olivia's wish, click here.

When children are battling a critical illness, so much of normal childhood is taken away from them — it is exhausting, both emotionally and physically. A Wish is something that gives kids the opportunity to look outside their illness — it restores a sense of childhood back to the child and normalcy back to the family. Check out these Valentine's Day bouquets, apply your coupon at checkout and donate today!

Bloomex's Valentine's Day Flower Meanings

This Valentine's Day, if you are searching for inspiration that is a bit more outside the box , don't overlook the many other types of flowers you can choose to send this year.

Perhaps the flowers are not for romance, and you wish to convey good wishes, friendship, caring or concern this year. Or perhaps they are for romance, but you want to make a very special statement this time around.

Whatever sentiment you want to express this year, say it with flowers! The history and meanings of flowers and herbs have circulated for thousands of years. During the Victorian era, flower dictionaries and books outlining the special "language" of flowers were extremely popular. Why not revive this custom and make a special selection this Valentine's Day? You can even include the flower meaning on your special card message to help convey your intent with the bouquet.

Carnations are a very popular Valentine’s Day flower. Their sweetly ruffled delicacy is very feminine, they last well, come in many colours and have a delicate fragrance. Traditionally a red carnation shows love, pride and admiration, pink demonstrates the love of a woman or mother, and white symbolizes innocence and pure love. All Carnations are a wonderful choice for Valentines' Day.

They may be the traditional choice, but you can never go wrong with roses for Valentine's Day (or any other day!). Roses are the queen of the sweetheart bouquet, always gorgeous and rich with colour. White roses symbolize enduring or everlasting pure love, and in the Victorian era the white rose became the queen of the bridal bouquet. Pink roses signify beauty, love and enduring grace. Lavender roses often mean enchantment or love at first sight. Red roses symbolize more passionate love, while pink suggest adoration and sweetness.Roses are available for amazing prices at Bloomex- Be sure to check all our many options and Rose Specials!

Lilies are always a beautiful and romantic choice that will be a graceful element of any Valentine's bouquet. Lilies come in many varieties including oriental, stargazers, asiatics and callas. Many of these come in stunning shades of pink, red and burgundy that would be stunning in bouquets. Lilies in general symbolize beauty. Yellow lilies are said to represent gaiety and lighthearted cheer, while orange lilies represent passion. Pink lilies often show caring and friendship.

Tulips
Tulips are not just for the Dutch. Tulips are a very beautiful, romantic flower that are often sent to show delicate, but firm beauty. Tulips come in many colors, each with a significant meaning. Send yellow tulips to declare that you are “hopelessly in love” with your beloved. Red tulips are a “declaration of love.” Pink tulips show “caring.”

Orchids, a high-quality, premium cut flower, are always fine options for romantic bouquets. Orchids are graceful, beautiful, colorful and bring a bouquet to life. Orchids can be used in contemporary bouquets or traditional designs; whatever you wish! Use the lofty reputation of orchids to show your sweetheart that she truly is the finest person in your life.

There is no flower more instantly enchanting than the iris. This beautiful flower can be any color from a deep purple to a beautiful blue. Iris means “friendship and hope; inspiration.” What better way to say that after all these years, your sweetheart is still your best friend?

Yes, the daisy. Daisies, which mean “innocence,” are wonderful, beautiful flowers that fill the room with joy. Any time of the year, but especially near Valentine’s Day, daisies are a great choice for your romantic bouquet.

Health Benefits of Fresh Cut Flowers

Having fresh cut flowers from Bloomex in your home does so much more than simply intensify the room's aesthetic appeal. Check out what you can expect from the simple act of adding flowers to your home.

Flowers enhance your mood.
If you were to give random gifts out to men and women, flowers are the only gift that would receive a true smile (a smile with your mouth, cheeks and eyes) every time.

Flowers reduce stress.
A group of women were surveyed regarding their stress levels at the beginning and end of a 12-day period. Five days in, each participant received either flowers, a luxury candle or nothing. At the end of the study, the women who received flowers reported improved moods and reduced stress levels. On average, the stress among the flower group was 5.5 points lower on the questionnaire, where the candle group was only 2 points lower and the group with nothing had no change.

Flowers help you "get better soon".
Lack of humidity in the winter air creates an environment in your body that breeds infections. This is one of the the reasons you see so many people getting the cold and flu throughout winter. Water released naturally by flowers will help with sore throats, dry skin, and heavy dry cough.

Flowers boost your memory.
Seniors performed higher on everyday memory tasks and experienced enriched personal memories in the presence of flowers. Seniors who received flowers re-engaged with members of their communities and enlarged their social contacts to include more neighbors, religious support and medical personnel.

Flowers increase your sex appeal.
A study done in 2010 found that women rated men in videos as sexier when sitting in a room filled with flowers than in one with empty vases. They reported feeling more likely to go out with them. In another study, women were more likely to give their number to a man when standing outside a flower shop.

Flowers are the best bribe.
Flowers increase a level of compassion that we feel for others. Which means we are more willing to do someone a favour when given flowers first.

So, when your not quite sure what you should be doing, buy flowers. There are no studies proving they won't solve all your problems..
