Bloomex and the Boys and Girls Club

Bloomex was proud to be a National Sponsor of the Flower Boys and Girls Campaign 2019. 

Bloomex was delighted to donate 2500 assorted roses and tulips to Boys & Girls Clubs in four major cities across Canada. This was part of an effort to create more caring communities in honour of Valentine’s Day.

The Flower Boys and Girls Campaign began in 2014 and took place in Ottawa to help connect local businesses with their community on the days leading up to Valentine's Day. Local volunteers and key community leaders including Ottawa's mayor Jim Watson participated in handing out flowers to residents during past campaigns.

The Campaign originated to show that a small gesture can change someone's life, to create a more caring city, and to remind people what it was like to receive a Valentine's gift from someone near them. The initiative has grown each year with more participants and recipients taking part.

This year's campaign has expanded and for the first time included four Canadian cities: Ottawa, Halifax, Montreal and Toronto. The 2019 campaign was also proud to include the Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada who participated in handing out flowers in these areas. Participating clubs included the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Halifax, the Dawson Boys & Girls Club, the Boys & Girls Club of Ottawa, and the Toronto Kiwanis Boys & Girls Club as representatives of their respective communities.

The Boys and Girls Club volunteers and kids all came together the days before the event to wrap all the flowers and attach the special cards.

Together with community leaders, volunteers and some VIP guests, the children handed out 2500 flowers in the largest initiative to date.

Bloomex is proud to continue as an Official Sponsor of the Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services (CFMWS) and their Operation Santa Claus program, which sends care packages to deployed Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members over the holiday season. Bloomex and Op Santa wants to thank YOU for your support with Op Santa in 2018. Let's do it again for 2019! 

Bloomex will, again, provide Canadians with the opportunity to create free personalized greeting cards to express their thanks and well wishes to the troops. The goal is to send one card for every active deployed Canadian soldier who is overseas this December, which could be as many as 3000 men and women. This means none of our Canadian troops go without some kind words from home, over the holidays.

Being Canada's Official Florist means we are constantly coming across the best (and worst) card messages! Customers always have the option to add a full sized greeting card to showcase what they want to say. Bloomex Supports Koffler Arts

Bloomex was happy to be a part of Koffler Centre of the Arts' book launch on February 20. Koffler's 2019 Books & Ideas Series with writers Joshua Whitehead and Arielle Twist together in conversation was a raving success.

Joshua Whitehead is a Two-Spirit, Ojibwe-nêhiyaw otâcimow from Peguis First Nation. The author of 'full-metal indigiqueer', shortlisted for the Inaugural Indigenous Voices Award in Poetry and the Stephan G. Stephansson Award for Poetry, and 'Jonny Appleseed', shortlisted for a Governor General’s Award for Fiction and longlisted for the Scotiabank Giller Prize. It was a real treat to hear Joshua speak about this passions.

Arielle Twist is a writer and sex educator from George Gordon First Nation, Saskatchewan, based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She is a Cree, Two-Spirit, trans femme supernova writing to reclaim and harness ancestral magic and memories. Her debut collection of poetry 'Disintegrate/Dissociate' will be released in spring 2019 from Arsenal Pulp Press. Arielle's bubbly attitude was luring as the audience listened to her speak about her book.
