In October, We Wear Pink.

October is Pink Ribbon Month, Canada! Join in with Bloomex in raising funds and awareness!

In 1992, a small group of volunteers began a movement in Toronto’s High Park. That day they brought together 1,500 people to raise awareness and $85,000 for breast cancer. This marked the beginning of what was to become Canada’s largest single day, volunteer-led event in support of the breast cancer cause, the CIBC Run for the Cure. Today, the event has over 80,000 participants and raises $16 million annually in communities across Canada.

In 1997, the trailblazing partnership between the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF) and CIBC began. On February 1, 2017, CBCF and the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) joined forces under the CCS banner.

Together, CCS, CIBC and thousands of dedicated Canadians continue to raise vital funds for breast cancer through this signature event. We are grateful to CIBC, their employees and clients for their longstanding support, and to the countless volunteers, participants and donors that are helping to change the future of breast cancer.

This event unites an incredible collective of Canadians who are a force-for-life in the face of breast cancer and want to show their support. It’s an inspirational day that raises significant funds for CCS, the largest charitable funder of breast cancer research in Canada.

CCS invests these dollars into ground-breaking breast cancer research, compassionate support services, trusted cancer information and advocacy on behalf of all Canadians. It’s because of the funds Canadians raise through the CIBC Run for the Cure that we know more than ever before about how to prevent, diagnose, treat and live with and beyond breast cancer.

Flower of the Month; October

October’s birth flower is the marigold. With its golden blooms that match the color of autumn leaves, it’s no wonder the marigold is the flower for October. 

Marigolds symbolize fierce love, passion and creativity. Marigolds also have a long tradition of being used to heal inflammation and skin problems.

Cultures all over the world have used marigolds for treating various health ailments, dying fabrics, creating cosmetics and seasoning foods! 

Marigold flowers can be eaten and are used in salads or as a substitute for saffron. The same antioxidant carotenoids that creates marigold’s captivating color, also provides positive health benefits, such as lowering the risk of heart disease and some forms of cancer.

Marigold is also a natural insect repellent. It’s strong small helps keep bugs away from vegetable gardens or having potted plant close to a window or door will keep flies and mosquitoes out of your home.

Bloomex Supports Farm to Fork Market in Airdrie

Bloomex was so excited to be a part of the first annual Farm to Fork Market in Airdrie. We were able to donate gift vouchers for all attendees and a beautiful gourmet gift basket for the silent auction. 

The Farm to Fork Market was able to raise almost $500 for the Children's Cottage Crises Nursery.

Farm to Fork Market was a family friendly market filled with lots of wonderful vendors and fun things to do and see. This Market was the talk of the town; with approximately 42 vendors, food trucks, Petting Zoo, Face Painting, guest speaker and more.
