Flower of the Month: Delphinium

It should be no surprise that the official flower of July is the bold and beautiful Delphinium. They're fun, bright and add drama to any bouquet! Known to some as Larkspur, they come in a beautiful variety of purple and indigo shades. This is definitely a flower to check out!

There are over 400 different types of Delphinium species, some species sap can be mixed with the chemical, alum, to make blue ink. Delphinium plants and seeds are very poisonous to both humans and animals and, if consumed, can lead to severe illness, paralysis and even death. Despite their more dangerous qualities, Delphiniums used to be used for improving asthma symptoms, in the correct quantities.

When you receive a beautiful bouquet of delphinium, the stems need to be cut on an angle to help them drink more effectively. The water needs to be changed and new plant food added every couple of days. These beautiful blooms do best in a shady spot with cooler temperatures.

Delphinium adds a pop of colour to our Sapphire Miracle Arrangement. Check out all out bouquet with a pop of colour, click here.
