Bloomex Provides Flowers for National Championships

Last month Bloomex was delighted to continue its duties as Official Florist for Skate Canada! Bloomex provided all the florals, gift baskets, and medallist bouquets for the very exciting Canadian National Championships in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Halifax was pleased to host this event as skaters from across Canada converged to compete for the medals in the different age categories and competitions. Fans were treated to amazing performances from the county's best skaters.

The venue was brightened by several lovely floral arrangements from Bloomex, which highlighted the judges' lounge, skaters lounge, reception area, VIP lounge and other key areas around Scotiabank Centre, all to suit the red and white Canadian theme. VIP guests received gourmet gift baskets and some welcoming bouquets. School children who visited were also treated to some cuddly Bloomex teddy bears which were also used as prizing for some of the CanSkate competitions.

The Bloomex team designed a lovely red and white bouquet for the 2016 medallists, with plaid ribbon to coordinate with the setting in the Maritimes, and "ice crystal" branches to accent the wintry setting.

The medallist bouquets were enjoyed on the podium by all the winners, including men's champion Patrick Chan, and women's champion Alaine Chartrand. Congratulations to all the hard working skaters who dazzled at this premier event. See below for a recap of the top winners in the senior events!

Bloomex Donates Flowers for Chai Lifeline Canada

Bloomex was recently contacted by Chai Lifeline Canada, who asked if we could possibly supply a few flowers for their upcoming fundraiser gala. We were delighted to assist!

For those of you who don't know this hard working group, Chai Lifeline is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping Canadian children suffering from serious illness. The Lifeline also helps their family members who are coping with this stress and the need for emotional and financial support to care for their sick child.

Chai Lifeline began with one program: a summer camp for children suffering from cancer. Camp Simcha gave sick children the opportunity to forget about illness and concentrate on being kids once again. The fun, friendship, activities, and love gave them the emotional strength to withstand the pain and isolation of illness for another year.

Today the mission continues and has expanded. Chai Lifeline Canada is devoted to alleviating the burden of those facing medical challenge, from the moment of diagnosis through the ups and downs of the coming months and years.

Chai Lifeline provides a variety of support options, from counseling, special sibling programs, tutoring, volunteers, family retreats, information programs, and so much more.

On December 3, Chai Lifeline hosted their sixth annual "Go All In" fundrasier night in support of their Chai Warriors kids. Over 300 people attended the event at York Mills Gallery in Toronto, playing Monte Carlo games and joining in a Texas HoldEm tournament. Fun was had by all, with many inspirational stories and speeches along the way.

Bloomex was delighted to donate and deliver the bulk flowers that the Chai volunteers selected for the centrepieces. The volunteers had a vision to create centrepieces in "Chanel" type vases, in lovely pastel shades. Our florists worked with them to come up with a list of flowers, such as pink roses, white alstroemeria, white lilies and greens that would suit this theme, and the Chai volunteers did an amazing job!  What a gorgeous final result.

Bloomex was glad to provide even this very humble contribution to the evening. We are pleased to say that the fundraiser was a success—thank you to everyone who participated and donated to this very worth cause!

Best Hanukkah Flowers and Gifts

Photo from myjewishlearning.com

Happy Hanukkah! This year, Hanukkah begins at sunset on Sunday, December 6, and ends on Monday, December 14. This traditional Festival of Lights helps remember the victory of the ancient Israelites over the Syrian Greek army, and the added miracle of restoring the menorah to the Holy Temple. The miracle that is celebrated is that even though only one vial of oil remained, this vial provided light for a full eight days.

Today, the menorah is lit in celebration, with one additional candle lit each night, driedel is played, special foods such as latkes and jelly doughnuts are enjoyed, and sometimes gifts are exchanged.

Bloomex provides a wonderful selection of beautiful Hanukkah flowers and gifts to help you celebrate the season with your loved ones, whether you are near enough to gather or across Canada. We've selected a few of the highlights for 2015, but please check Bloomex for more ideas!

Perfect Holiday Poinsettias

Supreme Poinsettia Basket

The holiday season is here, and for many of us, we associate the beautiful Poinsettia plant with this special time of year. Native to Central America, this vibrant plant flowers during the winter in an area of southern Mexico. The ancient Aztecs called them 'cuetlaxochitl' and had several uses for them. They used the flowers (which are actually special types of leaves called bracts) to make a purple dye for clothes and cosmetics. They also used the white latex sap from the plant as a medicine to treat fevers.

We know about poinsettias today largely due to the first ambassador from the U.S. to Mexico. In 1825 Joel Roberts Poinsett (that's why we call them Poinsettias) brought some plants back to his greenhouses in South Carolina. He began growing them and sending them to friends and botanists. These friends shared and sold the plant and their popularity grew quickly. Their cheerful and festive colours bring us joy during the winter months and the holiday season.

Holiday Poinsettia Basket

Bloomex offers many gorgeous varieties and arrangements of this popular holiday plant, at different price options. We are also thrilled to present some NEW additions with beautiful planter baskets starring these popular holiday flowers!

We are also your best source for poinsettia in bulk at amazing prices, which is especially perfect for corporate gifts or retail decorating.
